Hello From Southeast Alaska,
We are lucky with our operation and the Adventurous that we are able to take advantage of fishing and adventure where ever it is in Southeast Alaska. This time of year we plan on and try to fish and explore the inside passage. Considering the distance to some of the areas we attempt (weather pending) to make one way trips utilizing Float planes to “make the switch”. We depend on Adventurous minded guest to take part in these trips and look forward to the chance to take full advantage of all Southeast offers.
The last two weeks the stars aligned we had the plan in place and two groups of venturesome guest willing to make the one way treks. The first week beginning August 11th took us down the outside coast of Baranof and up the flat calm waters and deep fiords of Chatham strait. Great weather, flat seas and stupendous fishing greeted returning guest Burke and Roberston crew. Wide open Halibut, King Salmon and Coho on the fly filled the week with excitement! We ended the week with some very pleasant trout fishing and a soak in one of the best hot springs in Southeast Alaska.
Week two began with some more Alaska like weather including both rain and wind. The fishing didn’t seem to suffer a bit and continued to be very good. The Palmer and Irwin team managed to land over 100 Coho on Fly rods many on top-water poppers, Great action! As the week progressed the weather improved and the fishing continued. We ended the week fishing the “flats” for finicky pinks trapped in the estuary by low stream conditions.
The Adventurous is back in Sitka for a moment, but back out in the morning for another two week adventure on Alaska’s inside passage.
We will have an update and report in two weeks.
From the wheelhouse,
Captain Travis Peterson
