Hello from Southeast Alaska,
After a winter of repairs, upgrades, and even a little R & R the Adventurous and her crew is back cruising the waters of Southeast Alaska. I say it every year, but being on the water this time of year is nearly indescribable. The lack of activity and traffic, the cool mornings, and placing the first footprints on the streams edge. It feels like we have the Tongass national forest to ourselves!
This week we we’re joined buy some great friends and avid adventurers Gerald Morgan, Rod Johnson, Fred Roberts, Jeff and Dick Helfrich and Adventurous first timer Tom Keasal. This is not your ordinary group of Steelheaders. Rod at 93 years young, fishes hard, takes his turn at the helm, and fills our days with stories of his life and his experiences as a submariner in WWII. Father and son Jeff and Dick both have carried on a family tradition of guiding in Oregon and Idaho and have over 100 years combined guiding experience!!! To say it is a pleasure entreating and fishing with this crew would be a understatement.
We spent the week cruising and fishing a number of both known and new streams. We found some wonderful water and even some good steelhead action. The week was filled with great hikes, good days of fishing and outstanding meals and times. Every now and then we happen to be in exactly the right spot at the right time and have one of those “should have been here yesterday” days. Our last day stream side this week was one of those days. Dick Helfrich after a lifetime on the water managed to release the largest Steelhead of his life! Congratulations Dick! Jerry also managed to land his lifetime steelhead the same day! Thanks to Fred and the rest of the crew for your Adventurous spirit and a trip we will not soon forget! We look forward to seeing you next year.
