Hello from Southeast Alaska,
My good friends Curt and Eunice Duininck seem to always bring an interesting twist to their Adventurous trips. They both have a lot of Southeast Alaska experience and know how to enjoy every aspect of life in the Tongass. This year like many others they choose to show their grandchildren Southeast Alaska Adventurous style! Joining Curt and Eunice where Adventurous first timers Grace, Tori, Sidney and Geo, all 14 years old.
To go over all of the activities and experiences these 14 year old girls had this week would take a book, but I can tell you it was exciting!!! The team picked up the fishing aspect quickly and all four girls fished, netted, and helped fillet and package all the fish. The bite was on this week in the salmon department and the girls where busy! There is just something about world class salmon fishing with teen age girls working the deck with their music playing in the background. The girls also had the chance to do some great spin fishing for Coho Salmon.
As if the great Salmon fishing was not enough, the girls all landed some great Halibut! In fact Sidney not only landed a great Halibut she landed the largest halibut of the year aboard the Adventurous!! We estimated the fish at well over 200 pounds and although it was well over the 68″ limit and was legal to take Sidney choose to release the large female fish! Congratulations Sidney! Tori and Geo also landed and released halibut well over 100 pounds this week!! Grace was lucky and landed a nice “keeper” size fish about 40 pounds.
One of the highlights for me this week was the presence of my son and wife. Curt and Eunice where very kind and invited Jake and Jenn to join them for the Adventure. Jenn was head chef this week so between cooking and taking taking care of Jake she had a busy wonderful week! “Boat ride” was the saying of the week with Jake and he didn’t miss any opportunity to join us on all small boat expeditions!
A very special thanks to Curt and Eunice for taking the time to join the Adventurous with their family! What a great week!!!
