Hello from Southeast Alaska,
This time of year is special Southeast Alaska. The Tongass is fresh from a long winter of vigorous storms, flooded rivers, and mountains stacked high with snow. It’s almost like the long winter has cleaned the slate and you get the feeling you are the first one to encounter this amazing place. You won’t see any cruise ships this time of year. No town streets full of rain poncho clad tourist here for there Alaska experience. This is Steelhead season. Pack the Gor-Tex, the heavy fleece and bring your walking stick. Long days, late dinners and nights spent in one beautiful anchorage after another. This is a special time of year!
This week of Steelhead fishing we encountered sunny skies and fish eager to attack flies. We were joined by a mixed group of anglers. We welcomed back mr. Larry Best, Jim Cloote and Outdoor photographer Brian Grosenbacher. Joining the group was Adventurous first timers Mike Pepper and Joe Ceballos.
Fishing 6 streams in 6 days we encountered some terrific steelhead action with everyone managing to land a number of fish on the fly. Joe managed to hook several nice fish on the swing, but the fish managed to jump and shake there way off. Humpback Whales, Killer whales, great shrimping and cruising added some great high notes to an already super trip.
Its hard to believe but meals seem to be improving aboard the old Adventurous. the new Adventurous chef Jessica Prentess is pushing the limit and providing us with meals like we have never seem.
